The Presidential Support Committee (PSC), under the National Coordinator, Senator Godswill Akpabio has tasked Nigerian Lawmakers to remain upright, as it congratulates the National Assembly for the emergence of a credible leadership that will lead the 9th National Assembly.
The lawmakers should remain upright, and work for the best interest of the country.
The emergence of Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan to lead the 9th Senate and his counterpart, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila in the House of Representatives, is indeed a welcome development that shows party supremacy.
Both Senator Lawan and Rt. Hon Gbajamiamila are well experienced in running the affairs of the legislative chambers. They have cognate experience as lawmakers and their wealth of experience would certainly bear on the nation’s development.
We therefore congratulate the new leadership, and also congratulates the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the nation at large, for the emergence of these seasoned legislators that will run the affairs of the legislative chambers.
Now that the legislature has got the right leadership, stepping into the “Next Level” through the change agenda of the Buhari administration would be a huge success.
The legislative arm of the government should therefore work in tandem with the executive, without compromising its independence, while working for the nation’s development.
With the emergence of those who believe in the change agenda of Mr. President, the country would now experience a vibrant and good governance that would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of this country.
It is therefore pertinent to remind our lawmakers that the executive-legislature relationship is paramount and should be promoted without compromising the principle of separation of powers, in order to save the country from losing good governance and economic prosperity.
The Buhari administration has good development plans for the country, and is committed at stamping out corruption, providing the needed infrastructure, creating job opportunities and enhancing the good image of the country in the comity of nations. That’s why it is imperative for the legislature and the executive to work harmoniously to deliver the best for the country.
