A Walk To 10th NASS: PDP Coalition Group Endorses Chinda For Minority Leader

Rising from a meeting in the uncompleted permanent building of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), at Plot 243 Mohammadu Buhari Way, Central Business District (CBD), Abuja, on Monday, May 15, 2023, the executive members of a coalition group in the PDP, led by the Concerned PDP League (CPDPL), called on elected members of the House of Representatives, both old and new, to back and elect the Member Representing, Obio Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers state in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda for the position of Minority leader in the green chamber.

The coalition group made the declaration during a media parley after a meeting in Abuja.

Alhaji Tasiu M. Muhammed, general secretary of CPDPL, Rukayat Tajudeen, National Secretary of PDP Ambassadors of Patriotic Minds (PDPAPM), and Vurunda Yuhana, National Secretary of PDP Volunteer Vanguard (PDPVV), in a joint statement, endorsed Hon. O. K. Chinda as the minority leader of the 10th house of representatives.

The coalition group that initially projected and promoted Hon. Chinda for Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives with the hope, the PDP will produce the majority in the house, resort to making a case for him as the minority leader, following PDP’s inability to produce a majority in the house.

They said it became necessary considering Hon. Chinda’s pedigree, to urge members elect both from PDP and other parties to elect the loudest voice and loudest opposition voice on the floor of the green chambers.

According to them, “Hon. O. K. Chinda is the most suitable man for the job of the minority leader. We call him the parliamentary general because of his antecedents, and we believe, he will use his political, intellectual, and vocal dexterity and sagacity to help provide the needed vibrant and constructive opposition for a robust and people-oriented legislative business.

“The office of Minority Leader of the House of Representatives should be ceded to Hon. Chinda that have the capacity to galvanize, stabilize and build cohesion with members for a progressive parliamentary business, and yet provide constructive and critical criticism.  Someone like him who is in touch with the people and members can help to promote peace and unity amongst parties irrespective of political affiliation in the country”

They however warned that it will be a big minus to the 10th assembly, if as they preferred to call him, the parliamentary general (PG), Hon. O. K. Chinda is not given the opportunity to serve this nation as speaker, deputy speaker, or minority leader. It’s not the number of years spent in the national assembly that makes one a parliamentary general, but the impact made. And Hon. Chinda has without media frenzy, made a very impressive impact. That’s what has attracted us to him.
