A pressure group of the Peoples Democratic Party, the Concerned PDP League (CPDPL) has told the former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, the bitter truth. The CPDPL said Dr. Babangida Aliyu should concentrate his energy and resources on winning back Niger State for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) starting with the Presidential election and all through to the State House of Assembly. The group advises Dr. Aliyu to tone down his over-bloated ego and eschew making innuendo statements against Governor Wike, who is credited with turning around the PDP after most of the current gladiators jettisoned their membership of the PDP and joined the All Progressive Party (APC). The self-styled former “servant of the people” boasted that PDP will win Rivers State but he forgot that PDP youths thought very little of the old brigade like Dr. Babangida Aliyu.
In a press release issued in Abuja on Saturday, and signed by the leader, Comrade D. Z. Warmate, the CPDPL said that empty rhetoric by Dr. Babangida Aliyu and his cronies is the reason our Presidential candidate is being misled. Some of them can not even go to their village. They are trying to deceive and betray him just the same way they betrayed former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Warmate said, rather than relying on votes from Rivers State and the other South-South States, Babangida Aliyu should strive to deliver Niger State and the entire North Central to our great party, the PDP, in 2023.
Comrade Warmate described a notorious fact, the abysmal performance of PDP in Niger State since 2011, pointed out that even with Dr. Babangida Aliyu as a sitting Governor, PDP lost woefully in the State in 2011 and 2015. And the failing trend continues till date.
To put the record straight, in the past presidential elections in 2011, 2015, and 2019, Aliyu has not been able to give PDP the required 25% in his home state of Niger, and since 2015 PDP did not win up to two states and a federal constituency election, let alone senatorial or governorship seat which was a herculean task to the dimming popularity of Dr. Babangida Aliyu.
Dr. Aliyu acts as if he wishes Atiku well but he could not deliver Niger State for Atiku in 2019. President Buhari defeated the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in all the 25 Councils in Niger State. It is laughable to see a serial loser like Br Babangida Aliyu, giving false confidence and convoluted advice to our Presidential candidate rather than telling him the truth so that he can buckle up and work harder to be able to win. By contrast, Governor Wike is a proven winner, whose electoral value spans well outside of the Niger Delta. Dr. Babangida Aliyu and the rest of the hangers-on around Atiku Abubakar, to malign the integrity of Governor Wike will not succeed as they lack a moral compass.
It’s high time we told PDP leaders the bitter truth to those of them that subtly betray the party, We will no longer value our leaders based on the former position they occupy but based on the votes they can bring to the table because some of them were just picked and put on the seat even against popular mandates. That’s why we are not bordered or intimidated by the title of former this or that without vote worth and stand by the truth.
That was how the opposition party felt relaxed because, they felt that, french people did not want president Macron again and as such do not need to put in their best, and to their greatest surprise, he won the election.
We, therefore, plead with our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku to follow and listen to people with electoral worth. And it’s also our plea that people like Babangida Aliyu should leave Atiku alone and let him act in a manner that will show Nigerians that he is willing to win the election, not just to be on the ballot and do the usual.
