Youth With Disabilities Among The Poorest — Aisha Buhari

Young people with disabilities are among the poorest and most marginalised persons around the world today, the first lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari has said.

Mrs Buhari, who spoke while declaring open a three-day workshop on Mentoring and Life Enhancement Programme for Youth Living with Disabilities organised by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Development in Abuja on Monday, urged all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with youth component in their budget appropriation to ensure that no youth is left behind, because everyone counts.

Represented by the Minister, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MWASD), Mrs Pauline Tallen, she said, it is important to recognise that the vision, imagination, ideals and energies of all young people irrespective of their physical conditions are equally vital for the social-political and economic development of the nation.

The Minister, Ministry of Youth and Sport Development, Mr Sunday Dare, also revealed Federal Government plans to scale up implementation of life-changing activities for youths with special needs.

“The government and this Ministry    recognise the importance of ensuring that all Nigerian youths irrespective of their physical status have equal opportunities and also enjoy all rights and privileges of citizenship in line with the adoption of Sustainable Development Goals and the ‘’Leave no one behind’’ agenda.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry, Mr Gabriel Aduda also said that youths with disabilities deserve a well-coordinated intervention from government to enable them actualise their dreams and aspiration.
