EBONYI State Governor David Umahi has said God will determine who will be governor in 2023.
He warned political gladiators to stop overheating the polity as ‘it is too early for politics of succession’.
Umahi spoke in Abakaliki at the weekend during the state congress of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor called for peace in the party, saying there was no reason for tension in the polity.
He said: “The best thing is to put your confidence in God, support the people and the government. I have nothing to fear and I must not replace myself. God will bring my successor. So there should be no tension; we still have one year and half to work, the other one year plus is all politics and empowerment. But we have to work first.”
Senators Sam Egwu (Ebonyi North); Ama Nnachi(Ebonyi South) and Obinna Ogba (Ebonyi Central), and lawmaker representing Afikpo North/South Iduma Igariwey boycotted the congress.
Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who was re-elected party chairman, assured faithful that the state executives would continue to entrench internal democracy in the party.
