Court Orders Patience Jonathan’s Forfeiture Of $8.4m, N9.2bn

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, yesterday ordered the final forfeiture of the sums of $8,435,788.84  and N9.1bn traced to the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience.

Olatoregun held that the money was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime. “There is no reason provided in the affidavit to convince the court or to show cause why the monies should not be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“There is no evidence to reasonably show, beyond doubts, that the monies were legitimately earned,” the judge held the court granted the EFCC’s request that the money be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
