The Senate has tasked its Committees on Petroleum (Upstream and DownStream) and Finance to investigate allegations of non-remittance of $4billion by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).
This decision was taken as a result of a motion moved by Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, who expressed shock that despite the fact that we are in a change era some individuals have not remitted over $4billion to the government coffers even at a time government is planning to borrow from external sources.
Senator Ali Ndume thanked Dino Melaye for the Motion and urged President Buhari to take the motion with all seriousness.
Senator Binta Garba says an in depth activities of the NNPC should be looked into.“Nigeria is faced with a lot of crisis, 70% Revenue generated from the oil sector is being withheld by an Agency of Government”
The move to probe the allegation was supported by all other lawmakers present at the Tuesday’s plenary with the Senate President calling for an end to these acts of sabotaging the efforts of the Anti-Corruption Agencies.
Saraki also asked the Committee in charge to do a thorough job and must give report on their findings by 9th January, 2017
