Rivers Governorship Tribunal: ADP, INEC Close Case

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has closed its defence at the Rivers State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt.

INEC closed their case after presenting witnesses that confirmed the veracity of the result of the 2019 governorship election.

Last week, the petitioner, Action Democratic Party, ADP, had closed their case after calling 23 witnesses.

The ADP closed their case case with the presentation of their governorship candidate, Victor Fingesi as their star witness, who insisted that elections did not hold in Rivers State.

As INEC closed its defence Wednesday, Counsel to ADP, Dolapo Attani said they have been able to get additional information that the results announced by INEC did not emanate from their officers.

According to Attani, “Interestingly, INEC closed their case today. All the witnesses they called who are their officers tendered documents they were not the makers. We were able to establish that fact.

“We are able to elicit that those who ought to have been called as witnesses were not called at all.”

On his part, Counsel to INEC, Prof. Garba Tetengi SAN, said INEC conducted a free and fair election in Rivers state, “and that has been proven by the witnesses we called.”

DAILY POST reports that the Tribunal adjourned till Friday when Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike is expected to open his defence.
