Adulterated Fuel And Resurgence of Petrol Scarcity: Groups Calls On NNPC GMD, COO’s To Resign Or Be Removed

The Concerned Citizens (CC) and the Concerned Peoples Democratic Party League (CPDPL) has called on Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC), Yusuf Usman, Chief Operating Officer (COO) in charge of Gas and Power, Tombomieye Adokiye, Chief Operating Officer (COO) in charge of Upstream, Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu, Chief Operating Officer (COO) in charge of refineries and Adeyemi Adetunji, Chief Operating Officer (COO) in charge of Downstream to resign. Further, the groups urge President Buhari to immediately sack them if they failed to resign on or before February 20, to make Nigerians believe his rhetorics of wanting to sanitize the oil sector.

This was released in a joint statement by the Concerned Citizens and Concerned PDP League in Lagos by the Executive Director, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammed Abubakar  and the Leader, Comrade Daboikiabo Z. Warmate respectively.

The groups described as colossal, woeful and montrous failings of the above echelons officers of the NNPC, the importation of adultrated fuel, re-emergence of queues at filling stations and increase in the cost price of domestic gas, are inflicting tremendous pain and hardship on the common citizens of this country.

The statement reads;
“We the CONCERNED CITIZENS and CONCERNED PDP LEAGUE jointly urge President Buhari to immediately sack the NNPC GMD, COO, Gas and Power, COO Upstream, COO refineries, COO Downstream, if they fail to resign on or before the 24th of February, 2022”.

“The importation of adultrated fuel which resultant effects is the unimaginable queues at filling stations, fuel price increase to between N750 and 800 per liter in the black market in Abuja, katsina state et al and numbers of damaged cars acrose the country. This has impressed on the teeming Nigerian masses untold hardship and pains. Infact, it has exercibated the borden already placed on the citizens, with the astronomic raise in the cost of Gas”.

“In a civilized society, the GMD and his failed team would have resigned or be fired by the president, rather than making an adultrated press conference and statements. They have sufficiently displayed inability and incapacity to continually stay in office”.

“It was reported in the news that, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. may need an estimated N201 billion worth of clean Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), to bring 170.25 million litres of adulterated products imported into the country up to standard, an analysis of industry data has shown”.

“The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority had said on Tuesday that, for every 200 million litres of the adulterated product, 800 million litres of petrol with good quality would be required for the blending to be done”.

“The question is, who will pay or  shoulder the borden of the N201 billion naira? Are Nigerians to pay via our taxes for the negligence of these officers? Who will pay for the damaged cars? Their negligence has led to increase in the price of food items and transportation. This has put extra borden on the citizens”.

“The money that is enough to set up 5 cottage industry each in the 6 geopolitical zones of the country for the youths to be gainfully employed!
The group further said, if at the end of this month they are not sacked, they will take the following steps; 1. Write a formal petition to the president 2. Address a world press conference 3. Lead a protest at both the NNPC Towers Abuja and Villa gate”.
